Acceptance and Commitment Theory features strongly in my coaching approach.
How to Stop Struggling and Start Living.
In a world that often demands constant achievement, perfection, and control, it’s easy to get caught in cycles of stress, anxiety, and self-criticism. Acceptance and Commitment Theory (ACT) offers a refreshing alternative — one that helps individuals live more meaningful lives, not by eliminating difficult emotions, but by changing how we relate to them.
This approach isn’t about “fixing” your thoughts or feelings. Instead, it helps you change how you relate to them, so you can focus on what really matters in your life.
What Is Acceptance and Commitment Theory (ACT)?
ACT is a type of modern psychological therapy developed by Dr. Steven C. Hayes. But you don’t need to be in therapy to benefit from its ideas.
At its core, ACT teaches us to:
• Accept what’s out of our control
• Commit to actions that improve and enrich our lives
This approach helps us become more psychologically flexible — meaning we can handle tough thoughts and emotions while still doing the things that matter most to us.
Who Can ACT Help?
The short answer: almost everyone.
ACT is used in therapy for people struggling with anxiety, depression, chronic pain, addiction, and more. But it’s also used by coaches to help people who want to:
• Be more present and focused
• Handle stress more effectively
• Make better choices
• Live with more purpose and meaning
If you have a mind (and sometimes it gives you trouble), ACT is for you.
